Tis the holiday season for eating and gift giving! My friends and family know that when I throw a holiday party or any big party, I’m notorious for sending guests home with a tasty party favor. Like who doesn’t want a little reminder of the fun they had? I’m happy to be sharing with you today a recipe for peppermint hot cocoa truffles and I’m going to show you how easy it is to share these treats with family/friends and co-workers. These taste really good and you most likely have many of the ingredients you need at home already. As a tradition, I’ve given these out many times over the years to raving reviews so I’m confident they will be much appreciated by those you feel moved to share them with.
I ventured out to my go to store for all things stocking up, Walmart to grab a few of the Rubbermaid TakeAlongs to pack my truffles up with. They are in the kitchen section not the market section. LOL you should have seen me looking for them…rather comical.
I picked up two sizes, the deep squares and the rectangles, but they come in so many sizes/shapes and also in more decorative ones that are already ready for gift giving. They do come in red, green and holiday prints if you want them to be ready to go for gift giving cookies and other baked treats. If they are out of those ones in your local Walmart, I’m going to show you below how to make your own decorative ones. I LOVE these containers and always get them for storing leftovers. They are really tight, and I have put them in the microwave, freezer, and dishwasher all without any issues in the past.
For the recipes you will need:
INGREDIENTS:
Chocolate cake mix and ingredients the cake mix call for
2/4 c mint chocolate frosting
4 tbsp mint chocolate bar chopped finely
crushed peppermint mint candy
3 tbsp hot cocoa
3/4 milk chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS:
Bake cake as instructed on box. Once cake is cooled, crumble into small pieces and mix in all the ingredients EXCEPT chocolate chips and crushed peppermint. Roll mixture into balls (a bit smaller than a ping pong ball)
Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave for 30-40 seconds. Dip a quarter of the rolled ball into the melted chocolate then dip into the crushed peppermint. Cool on cooling rack for an hour before packing up. (optional, you can roll the balls in the cocoa powder before the you get to dipping them into the melted chocolate) Do this until you use all the cake mixture.
To make your Rubbermaid TakeAlongs more decorative/festive, feel free to stencil a cute pattern on the outside of the container. Choose a stencil of your choice and use a marker of your choice to stencil a decorative/fun pattern on the outside. I like polka dots so I used this circle dot to stencil dots on the containers.
Aren’t the dots a darling little touch to the containers?
To make these tasty treats even more special, add a little gift tag with decorative ribbon. I’ve gone ahead and made some downloadable ones you can easily print from home. CLICK HERE to download and print them. I hope you try these out and give them to special loved ones this holiday season. Now aren’t you excited about giving the gift of thanks! I know I am. Lucky for you, Walmart is helping you do this by taking advantage of a special rebate for $1 When you buy 2 Rubbermaid TakeAlongs products at Walmart CLICK HERE for the rebate

These look amazing~!
I love how simple these containers are to dress up, and we make hot cocoa truffles every year! People are always amazed by them! #client
Glad you love them as much as I do!
Thanks Jenna!
My family members always say that I am wasting my time here at web, however I know I am getting know-how daily by reading thes good articles.|
These look fantastic! One Question, is the cocOa powder unsweetened, like hersheys cocoa powder?
Hi Jenny, they are very good! Use unsweetened cocoa as powder as sweetness will come easily from the cake mix and the frosting. Enjoy
XO
How many truffles does one recipe make? I would like to make these for a cookie exchange!
Debbie, the recipe makes 24-34 depending on how small you roll them
Thank you for the idea! It looks great! Where do i Get Mint chocolate frosting?
Hi Lisa,
The mint chocolate frosting can be found at your local grocery store.
When you say 2/4 c cHoc mint frosting, I’m assuming that is half a cup, right?
Anne, yes it is. I should have said that to make it easier. LOL
