EASY APPLE CRISP

Growing up I have always loved to bake. There was just something about  watching people enjoy dessert with a smile on there face that made me happy. I even thought one day I might grow up to be a baker as I took some baking classes. Alas, that career path wasn’t really my calling but I do so love to still bake desserts.

There is one recipe, that I’ve made since I was about 15 years old and perfected and that is my signature apple crisp. People know that this time of year they can expect to enjoy it at some point. The crumble and granny smith apple combination are what really makes this a winning and well balanced recipe. Not to sweet and not to tart.

With Christmas dinner around the corner, I thought I’d share the recipe just in case you want to serve up something new for dessert this year at Christmas dinner.

  • 8-10 cups granny smith apples
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (feel free to put a little more if you’d like)
  • 1 tsp of salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Peel, core and cut apples into chunks. Place apples in a buttered baking dish no larger than 9 x 13.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients til crumbly. I like to use two forks to make the mixing easier. Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the apples. Bake 40-45 mins.
  4. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream and enjoy.
