Some of you may or may not know, but many of my days each week are spent helping people achieve healthy, clear skin. You see, I have been in the beauty business since 2015 as an esthetician and makeup artist. I own a skin and acne clinic in Connecticut and it fills me with joy to help people feel confident in their own skin. I remember the year I turned 38 and looking in the mirror and saying…”OK lady you have to get serious with your skin care”. I know aging comes no matter what, but I’m not going down without a fight. Several things happen to our skin as we age…collagen and elastin break down, the rate in which dead skin turns over slows down significantly, our skin becomes drier and pigmentation/brown spots for years of sun damage start to show up more. Just like when it comes to my fashion choices, I’m a big believer that it’s OK to mix the more prestige brands with brands you would find in the mass market. As long as I’m getting a cohesive look I don’t care what the label says. In my makeup bag, on any given day, you will see a mix of this. My skin care routine is no different. I was out of some products recently, so off to Target a I went. I’m happy to have been able to try this new AVEENO product. It was easy to find at Target as I was picking up the AVEENO moisturizer I use to help with my eczema. I love their products when I have to treat my skin gently because they have ingredients sourced from nature that delivers real benefits and clinically proven results. They work for me. That’s the bottom line.

It’s winter, so I’m treating my skin a bit more delicate while still fighting the signs of aging.

3 Key steps I follow are:

1. I exfoliate to take off the dead skin. (I do this once a week, 2 times if  my skin is feeling really congested) and I’m always a big fan of my Kate Sommerville ExfoliKate, because it is dual acting. It has acids in it for a CHEMICAL exfoliation as well as tiny beads for a PHYSICAL exfoliation. I also use little sponges to gently exfoliate once a day.

2. I treat my skin with a Vitamin C serum that not only tightens and lifts my skins it has hyauloronic acid which helps to boots hydration.

3. I moisturize twice a day. I’m really loving this AVEENO Absolutely Ageless Restorative Night Cream. It’s SUPER hydrating and has blackberry complex that acts an an antioxidant to fight the signs of aging by improving the skins elasticity. The smell, on a serious note, is heavenly. I know it says it’s a night cream, but I’m using it in the day as well. I won’t tell if you don’t 🙂

TIP ON CLEANSING THE SKIN: Currently, I’m using a cleanser that gently foams to break down my oily spots, but it also is very hydrating at the same time. At night I use my cleansing cloths to take off makeup and then I clean my skin. The most important thing I want to mention is to cleanse your face twice. Why you ask? Well the first time you are removing dirt, grime, pollution etc…the 2nd cleanse you are actually cleaning your skin.

So, to riterate I’ve created this handy infographic below to remind you of the skin care essentials you need to fight the signs of aging.
