Weekend Recap: Arethusa Farm for Easter

Happy Monday loves, did you all have a wonderful Easter? We did. Gabbie came home (which is always a good time). I figured this was as good a time to restart a blog series I used to post called Weekend Recap. What was that series about you ask. Well it’s just like it sounds, a recap of what I/we did over the weekend. I will work on keeping this post up as frequently as possible depending on how news worthy/interesting/fun  the weekend was.

This past weekend it was beautiful and sunny. A perfect day for a drive through Litchfield county,  here in Connecticut where we visited Arethusa Farm and enjoyed a lovely lunch at their restaurant Al Tavolo to celebrate Easter. We did a more informal dinner on Easter Sunday with friends and family. FUN FACT ABOUT ARETHUSA FARM: The owners, George Malkemus and Anthony Yurgaitis, president and vice president, respectively, of Manolo Blahnik and were the guest speakers of Gabrielle’s college graduation from UCONN. Their speech was inspiring to me to say the least. The restaurant is just part of the Arethusa brand. There is also the actual farm which is open for tours (check the calendar) and a café directly across from the restaurant. The restaurant is super busy so if you know that you want to visit, please make a reservation as soon as possible.

I started my meal with a Bellini and the hubby a glass of red wine (did you check our boomerang toast of this on my instastory) Their menu is seasonal and only the best ingredients are used for their farm to table menu, not just from their own farm but from local business. This ensures that a true farm to table experience is enjoyed when dinning there.

We started with a parsnip-apple soup that also had mild carrot flavors dancing in our mouths that recently debuted as part of their new Spring menu. I’m just going to say that every single bite was like enjoying something made with love that was full of flavor and texture. In addition to the soup, for starters we also enjoyed the quartet of deviled eggs and the chicken liver dumplings (I’m not even kidding my mouth is watering right now just thinking of those dumplings lol). For lunch we split the Vietnamese Banh Mi Sandwich and Braised Lamb-Wich (yes it’s a sandwich with the most delicious lamb ever) If we had to pick a favorite from the two….we couldn’t. They were both savory, tender and ones we would surely order again.

Oh and please don’t think for a minute we went all the way out there and didn’t grab some scoops of their premium ice cream! Scott had chocolate and I had sweet cream. The ice cream shop was packed and for good reason. The flavors, although not to fancy, were pure and creamy right down to the last bite of the ice cream cone. We can’t wait to go back when it’s warmer.
