New York Weekend Escapes

As an avid lover of traveling and an even more lover of New England and the surrounding states, I thought I would create a space here on the blog for you all as a reference point if you ever want to escape to NY for a weekend getaway. We used to go to Vermont for many of our weekend getaways. There is something about escaping the crazy of the city and work life to the green mountains. Once we discovered the Hudson Valle/Catskills areas of NY, we knew we would be returning time and time again. The drive time is essentially the same from VT to those areas of NY so we really like that as well when going out there. Will keep this post updated as we visit more properties.  So feel free to reference it in future.

WOODSTOCK WAY HOTEL

This is the one we just recently visited (feel free to watch the vlog on this on this hotel here

It’s a fairly new hotel, about a year as of the publishing of the post. The staff is really nice. The room was bright and clean. The bed, SUPER comfy and the copper tub roomy and a must try! (don’t forget your milk bath or bubble bath) The bathroom even had heated floors. This particular room is a King Suite w/ tub room with views of the waterfall. There are different levels of accommodations so be sure to check out what works for you. Seeing that the hotel is a small hotel, there isn’t a restaurant on site. But no fear, you are in walking distance to the center of town with everything there. There is a small building on the property where you check in that also has a small shop, coffee bar and lounge area to relax. Each room is equipped with a bluetooth turntable and a curated collection of vinyl to enjoy as well. It’s a property that prides itself on being one with nature and the environment. You will find reclaimed wood, bio retention rods and other thoughtful nods to the preservation our planter throughout the property.

DIAMOND MILLS

This is a lovely property that’s has a beautiful waterfall for viewing. You can see the waterfall from some rooms and also see it from the beautiful deck outside the restaurant. As soon as you enter you are greeted by a nice staff member at the from desk. Loved the decor on the property. It feels like an eclectic mix of modern meets French meets rustic. We arrived late after the sun went down so didn’t get photos of suite we stayed in, but it was beautiful, had nice linens and well appointed. Our bathroom was a little small but he heated floors in there made out for that.

We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at The Tavern (the restaurant on site) everything was top notch and delicious. Really no need to leave the hotel to eat. The waterfall views was of course a plus! The property is also a hot spot for weddings. It’s beautiful and can see why.

There are no “grounds” per say to explore but there is lots to see in the surrounding Hudson Valley area. We went see the famous Saugerties Light House and it was definitely worth the visit to hear about the history of it and other lighthouses around the country.

SCRIBNER’S LODEGE

We visited in late Summer when the trees were lush and green and the pool was open. We know it must also be beautiful in the fall. The vibe of the property is like an upscale lodge. To think this was once an old motor lodge. It is inviting from the moment you enter and has everything you would need to stay cozied up there. The room we stayed in had a view of the mountains and pool. It was a loft style with the bedroom upstairs. We really liked the separation of the spaces like that. The property is clean and well maintained. The common areas are awesome! You can relax and talk by the fire, play pool, sit at the common table and work on your laptop or even read a good book while sipping on wine, beer or a cocktail (yes the onsite restaurant is great) we had cocktails while we waited to check in. We love that the restaurant is farm to table and we were even able to go to onsite garden and see where all the seasonal vegetables are grown. The staff is really nice and helpful so if you need anything, don’t be afraid to ask.

FRIENDS LAKE INN

What little gem of a place this is in the Adirondacks. It’s quaint and set off on a main but quiet road. It has nice pool, two beautiful restaurants to eat at (fine dining and casual bistro) and a wine cellar. We LOOOVE the rooms so clean and cozy and just makes you want to stay in there all day long. They have a variety of rooms to choose from with different features like the soaking tub and fireplaces. From the bed to the soaking tub, there wasn’t anything else needed to just sit back, relax and unwind. There is a sauna and hiking trail for you to enjoy. Its a really romantic place you will certainly enjoy visiting.
